Velletri is a major centre of wine production. Worth visiting are the Town Hall, with a portico built by Giacomo della Porta and the Civic Museum. Also a copy of the “Pallade Veliterna” can be seen in the museum (the original sculpture is in the Louvre in Paris). The city is also the seat of the important Suburbicaria Dio- cese of Velletri-Segni to which Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, was appointed in 1993. There are various events that should not be missed, such as the festival of Camellias at the end of March, the festival of wine and the grape in September and the festival of the town’s patron Saint Clement on November 23rd.
