Marino

Perched on the outer slopes of the volcanic crater occupied by Lake Albano, Marino is well known for its fine white wine, which is the protagonist of the famous Grape Festival held in October. In Piazza Matteotti one can admire the 17th century Fountain of the Moors, a symbol of the town from which wine flows during the annual festival and there stand the towers of the Colonna Ca- stle and the bell tower of the Baroque church of San Barnaba ri- sing over the roofs of the old town. The Umberto Mastroianni Civic Museum is well worth a visit, as well as the wonderful Mithraeum, which contains ancient Roman paintings which are considered to be the best preserved in Italy.
